Spud Nut Style Packing Box on Shaft Log
A packing box, or stuffing box, is a device that seals around the propeller shaft, preventing seawater from entering the boat. The shaft log, which is fiberglassed and/or drilled and bolted to the hull, is the actual opening through which the propeller or rudder shaft exits the vessel.
Unlike assemblies which have a connecting piece of hose, these Stern Tube Packing Boxes are rigid assemblies, and must be properly aligned at installation.
Complete assembly includes: hex spud and hex locking nut on a rectangular base shaft log
Finely machined cast bronze
This particular shaft log housing is internally threaded on the outboard end to accept a section of bronze pipe which forms the stern tube, passing through the keel
